Madhu works for a construction company as a day laborer. The construction sector consists mostly of day laborers who take on risky conditions without proper helmets or ill fitting safety equipment and gear.
They can earn anywhere between 200-300 rupees a day, which is equivalent to about $4.50 a day. Without any other skills or education, Madhu has to face these dangers so that he can provide for his family.
Due to the lockdown in India, Madhu is no longer able to work and provide for his family.
Madhu lives with his wife and 2 children and is the sole provider for his family. He told our staff that he is grateful that his family is safe and healthy, but worries about how they will survive with no job and no money.
Madhu knows the reality that if someone in his family became ill, they would not be able to get any help without any money available for medical care.
During the past weeks, Bloom India was able to provide Madhu and his family with essential food provisions. Madhu said his family is very fortunate to have food and don’t have to worry about where their next meal will come from.
